About
Who runs this
SoberOut is where people host and find alcohol-free events. Most of what it does is unglamorous. It holds a time and a place, it asks a few people whether they’re coming, and it makes sure somebody is at the door when a first-timer walks in.
One person
I’m not putting my name on this page. I’m in recovery myself, and I’m not ready to attach it to something this public. That’s the whole reason, and I’d rather say it than leave you wondering.
What I can tell you is checkable. One person built SoberOut and one person runs it. There is no team, no office, no investors, and nobody else with access to the database. When something here goes wrong, there is nobody else it could have been.
You can reach me at support@soberout.social. That address goes to me, and I answer within three days.
How big this is
Small. 66 people signed up so far. Most cities have nothing on this week, including probably yours.
If you’re wondering whether anything is happening near you, the honest answer is probably not yet. That’s the state of it. The product is built on the assumption that two people showing up is an event, which is the only way something like this ever starts — so there’s no version of this where I need to pretend there’s a crowd.
- What it isn’t
- Not a treatment programme. Not a meeting, and not a substitute for one. Nobody here is a clinician, nobody follows up on you, and nothing about your drinking is ever required.
- How it makes money
- Hosts of recurring tables pay $5 a month per table. That’s the whole of it — details on pricing. Members never pay, one-off hosts never pay, and nothing is sold to anyone.
- What I know about you
- As little as possible, deliberately. Nothing about your drinking is ever required — no sobriety date, no reason for being here. The privacy promise spells out the rest.
I’d rather this page be checkable than persuasive. If something on it stops being true, tell me and I’ll change the page.
If you need someone right now, here are the numbers. Nobody here is monitoring for emergencies.
